Regarding the announcement that Coinbase accepts payments in Lightning...When they find out that routed Lightning payments are private and that you can slip them coins from crimes or coinjoins...without them knowing...it won't last long.... 😂

Yeah, everybody that used Whirpool to coinjoin their coins are now going to use those coins to open private channels into major LSP and other nodes, and there will be no trace of them anymore.
Exactly, although there are certain heuristics that can be used to de-anonymize, such as searching for liquidity between channels if they are large payments, or time analysis, but it is certainly very difficult, and if you also use features such as mmp or amp (zeus has them) it is practically impossible to follow the trace.
Lightning is significantly less confidential for the receiver, than it is for the sender.
Exactly, that's why I specified payments...For the receiver, privacy is practically nonexistent.

I suspect this is why the suits are against payments. I think they got pissed when people sent bitcoin to an ETF address. It could have been tainted by marijuana dealers or people from Gaza or Russia.

For good privacy you need coinjoin, as the opening and closing of channels gives a lot of information.
Why do you think they are competent enough to find out? If it took them that long to even integrate lightning... OK, maybe I am too optimistic here, their procrastination on lightning could be more about not caring than pure incompetence.
