Yeah, everybody that used Whirpool to coinjoin their coins are now going to use those coins to open private channels into major LSP and other nodes, and there will be no trace of them anymore.

Exactly, although there are certain heuristics that can be used to de-anonymize, such as searching for liquidity between channels if they are large payments, or time analysis, but it is certainly very difficult, and if you also use features such as mmp or amp (zeus has them) it is practically impossible to follow the trace.
