German housekeeping is when you tidy up and clean, clean, clean, day in and day out, for weeks, and you're so frustrated and nearly in tears because you didn't get half of the tasks on your list done, and everything is still so filthy and messy, and what an embarrassment, and then your American visitors arrive and are like,

perspective, my house is always messy and full of toys. It never ends.

if i had visitors coming to stay in a day or two's time i'd be in a panic to get everything nice... i have the space to make everything tidy but because i basically don't use the other sleeping area in the place its covered with cables and clothes and linen... and my kitchen bench is cluttered with shit lol
it's mostly clean though... but it'd be shiny if i were to have visitors... i only really have accommodation for one or a couple tho
