Ubuntu is the only linux I've really used... some people have a real dislike for it... it's good to hear you're a fan

Not a fan, just a leftover from my corporate days where I started using it. This was from before Macbooks took over the developer space, but I refused and stuck to Ubuntu. It does the job and it does it well. I don't feel inclined to invest the time in changing over to a different distro.
Back around Ubuntu 14/15/16 (iirc) I had a few failed upgrades that forced me to reinstall everything on the boss's clock, but haven't had distro update deaths for years now. Current install is from when I got this laptop, just over 3 years ago.
Only major gripe is hooking it up to a large screen, that used to be finicky. But that had more to do with the limited Intel graphics chips, which couldn't drive the resolution. The one I have is still slightly underpowered to drive a 4k display for some graphical tasks, but for desktop use it's adequate.
