Do some people deserve to die?

If all people are morally accountable and justice is real, then who ultimately has the right to decide who deserves death and on what basis?

"No one can claim the ultimate right to decide who deserves death—because to do so risks turning justice into hubris."

Yes, but this has negative consequences for others which they do not deserve.

That aside, I believe evil has gone unchecked for too long and would argue that killing some people is just at this point, though it would not be moral to do so.

I differentiate here between what is moral and what is just.

Interesting 🤔

Is there much of a difference between what is moral and what is just?

Are justice & morality different?

Morality is to determine what is right or wrong from an individual perspective. I think it is never right to kill a person. At the same time I think it can be justified because justice is more related to external factors. Therefore, killing someone who causes death on others and will not stop until they are stopped is not right, but just. Then you do introduce a new killer, who should still receive some form of punishment. I realise the big problem with my approach is "who gets to call the shots with said judgement and thus what I say is viable only theoretically.

So far no one has provided the correct answer, and you have me muted.

You probably don't have the people who gave other answers muted?

But the answer is, relatively, not absolutely.

Nobody could be bad enough that death for them is good based on how bad they are. Death is worse than anyone.

But death exists, so some people have to die for their choices, and they deserve it more than people who made better choices.

It's very important to understand all the words I just said as an adult, instead of fucking muting people who make you think hard thoughts.

Wait, this guy might not have me muted

I might have them confused with another npub called "Nick"

Nah, I don't generally mute people.

I think I've only muted bots and a couple of people who kept spamming.

Thank you for being one of the ones who don't have me muted. I apologize again. Your question hit hard for me and I lashed out with paranoid mixup memory

I honestly don't know the answer to the question. I'm still pondering about it. I thought I'd put it out there to get more perspectives.

I like hearing from different perspectives and types of people. It's fine if people who don't like me want to comment or reply. I only mute if I get spammed.

I've got nothing against others who choose to mute others either. If they don't want to hear from people they don't agree with, that's for them to decide. I don't think I've got a right to others' attentions.

I think it's why I like Nostr so much. Everyone cures their experience as they wish it to be.

I think about this all the time because it seems like my loved ones and I are gonna die for our choices and there are a lot of people who seem happy about it. I spend every day wishing Digit valued her own survival more and felt like I don't deserve to die either. And I guess she spends every day wishing a guy she loved didn't kill himself.

If there was a button you could press that would make no one ever die again, everyone would deserve you to press it. We only deserve to die because it's too hard for us to survive

I'm not sure immortality would be good for anyone. As painful as death is, I believe it is needed and good in the long run. Happy to change my mind on this.

My other reply might have mixed you up with another npub. Hard to keep track of the list when it's hundreds of active people, sorry
