Have you ever talked to ChatGPT?

Yes

It’s impressive for quickly collecting or interpreting information you feed it, but it’s still clearly just a database of human created content being reproduced in an appealing way by a language simulator. I have certainly found bad takes and incorrect statements that it will make, but it’s just a tool and it’s essentially the product of its creators.

Found the guy whose job is going to be replaced first

(Or maybe I found ChatGPT in the wild, who knows?)

I currently make pizzas for a living (lmao) and am a firm believer in tools making human life more enjoyable

I’m sure calligraphers were afraid when the printing press was invented but that’s no reason to stop human progress. The economy always naturally rebalances to be more efficient.

If you question it on controversial topics, it always has the worst, most globohomo take possible. It’s like talking to an antifa tranny propaganda bot. It also just straight up lies to justify its positions. GPT-4 is apparently even more pozzed.

I just think you’re using it wrong. It’s not meant to be actually intelligent, no matter how much they market it as artificial intelligence. All it can do is take human tasks like summarizing work or writing responses or even code, and make it more efficient. You still need to use your human brain to make judgements on the content it provides and act accordingly.

Obviously, I agree with you that a dumb internet robot shouldn’t be relied upon for controversial political opinions or good philosophical thought

It’s not really about how I’m using it, but how it will be used. I think it’s going to have a significant impact, and in a negative way.

But I also see how it is very useful in other ways.

Only idiots who already have those backwards political and philosophical opinions will take it seriously on those subjects

Anyone who can think for themselves will continue on as usual

It can check code.

I think you’re underestimating how effective propaganda can be.

Propaganda doesn’t need ChatGPT to exist

And I don’t underestimate it - unfortunately I’d estimate most people are the victims of propaganda (meaning they have one or more self destructive idea which they hold as the result of propaganda)
