GM Nostr. 🌞

I'm trying something new. I'm trying to stop thinking or saying aloud that I'm busy (in any form). Hear me out...

We're all busy. There are always more things we want to achieve in a day than we have hours for. And this is a good thing. It makes us prioritize. It gives those hours real value. Like Bitcoin, you can't print more hours.

Telling yourself (and others) that you're busy is a mental cop out, it's a way of trying to make yourself feel better about what you're not doing while also signaling that you're important in some way.

My new mantra is that I have exactly the right number of hours to do the things that are most important to me. It's just up to me to prioritize those things correctly.

Love this framing.

For sure, I'm also trying to do better and not adding to the flaking and ghosting pandemic we're currently in! Always being busy isn't a badge of honour, it just shows you don't know how to prioritise

Yes, being busy is not the same as doing something.

But even doing things doesn't mean you're doing the right things, either.

True

Directionally correct > busy

"Right" is subjective

Do what makes you happy

It‘s also OK to give yourself permission to not care. If you did, you‘d do it. I find myself saying I‘m busy to please others, when often I just don‘t care. Best hack to delete your email inbox btw 😁

Well said. Busy is the norm, almost not worth mentioning.

The question is, what are your priorities. There is always time, if it's important enough.

If you’re too busy it means it’s not your priority.

Take ownership of your priorities and decisions, kindly communicate if and when you will be able to what is requested from you.

Focus is the key to productivity, use systems for intake of “work” and prioritize accordingly. I use the GTD methodology, it creates clarity and focus (for me).

Great stoic mindset

I'm not busy, never have been!

Not sure why?

That may mean I'm a low time preference person!

Good to remember. Thanks 🙏

I agree. One of my team members would always respond to "how are you?" with "busy". I would challenge him always

I support you trying this!

I sometimes respond:

- I thank and decline your proposal because it doesn't align with my current priorities.

Great thought. Saying you're busy has always struck me as a status symbol.

Saying you're busy is a socially acceptable way to encode the idea that you're mostly spending your time on things you don't want to.

I wonder if there's a correlation between this and low agency.

Mostly rephrasing your idea here. Thanks for sharing.

It’s all about prioritization. Well said 👍

Sounds like a great mantra, will try to adopt 🧡

Congratulations, time is precious so we need to prioritise and learn more about Bitcoin
