I wrote 60,000 words of (rough) fiction in the month of September. About half a novel. It’s been a really fun and creative process.

If you want to do something, just start. Starting is the hardest part for most things.

To be fair, it's not unreasonable to have this primal desire for subkeys and key rotation. The problem is that:

1) it's not possible to do without centralization (or a blockchain) -- Bluesky tried, and the best solution they came up with was a big server that hosts a history of keys for everybody and can censor anyone;

2) doing it by means of Nostr events that declare subkeys or delegation or whatnot, creates insurmountable complexity that turns Nostr into an unusable pile of bloatware and away its most basic feature: the chance of working;

3) it's not the only way to protect your key from rogue computers and apps -- NIP-46 and other methods exist and are much nicer to use, with still many unexplored possibilities;

4) it's not clear that more than 16 people in the entire world want this at all -- when was the last time a normal person thought about rotating their PGP keys?

Nostr missionaries: we don't have algorithms on nostr.

Meanwhile nostr:

On-boarding people to Nostr now is like: Well, you can use Amethyst, which by now is so complicated only devs can enjoy it but still you won't be able to tag a profile in a note and have to copy the npub over from another app, like Primal! ...which can't do the most basic things like blocking accounts on this bot infested protocol of ours. Oryou get an iPhone to install Damus which they say is slick but that's of course only to be loved by the guys locked in the Apple panopticon but with just some hacky workarounds you get the cool functions too. Then there are web clients that require browser extensions for the login, which of course don't work on your smartphone. Sometimes you see NIP or other Lingua Nostr on options and buttons, then you just have to research on github & wiki do learn what it is or better not click it.... But yeah. Welcome to

I simply can't believe it. Three lines of code and I'm instantly running a self-sovereign self-custody node and wallet, plugged into Nostr. No IBD! No week to sync!

It's amazing that bitcoin exists, and that it continues to work. It's amazing that nostr exists, and that all the stuff that we only dreamed about a few short years ago is being built out before our eyes.

Zaps and splits and eCash and self-sovereign infrastructure and streaming sats and swarm highlights and zapraisers and marketplaces and secure chat and and and. And this is just the beginning. "It's as bad now as it will ever be."
