There are two powerful new ideas I gained during my trip to #nostrasia and I think they are important primitives that I can build on:

1. Protecting property is necessary because property is finite. Intellectual property should not be protected by patent laws because the use of an idea does not diminish nor deplete the value of the idea. Ideas are infinite and do not get consumed. In fact, network effects may increase their value.

2. It's very difficult for a digital system to know with certainty where you are physically located on the planet because you can easily lie to sensors in your device. Whatever signal your GPS sensor sends is blindly trusted by your device; bypassing the sensor allows you to send any signal you want. There is no validation. However, #cyberspace creates a digital system where you can only exist in one location at any given time because it is validated, and since the opportunity cost of being in any given location excludes all others, this makes the location you occupy much more certain and real than simply trusting a sensor.

Regarding 2, what prevents you from building two action changes simultaneously?

Hey Max, you were largely responsible for inspiring idea #1 😁

You can build 2 action chains simultaneously for two different identities, but they are separate identites. You wouldn't be able to convince any nostr application they are the same. So I don't see it as a viable way to funge locations.

Why wouldn't it be possible for the same identity?

It's similar to the event withholding attack you mentioned, there is no "global consensus" on nostr, how would you know that I published my second action chain on some other relay you don't connect to?

Forking an action chain invalidates it.

I hope that is satisfactory, but if not, then please say so. These kinds of questions are important in solidifying the protocol and I appreciate them very much!

Good thought stuff my man … keep em coming !

interesting, point 1 is not very popular I guess?

Logic might not be popular, but it is indisputably true.

Thanks for broadcasting this Max. You made me go down that rabbit hole (think it was the Hillebrand series) and it was an insight I desperately needed. To make sense of FOSS entrepreneurship in particular. 🙏
