Philosophy question of the day. Would it change anything if you found out that this was really a simulation?
Discussion
Probably no
No. Because I already think it is quite plausible. Luckily simulation runners are not that erratic.
Or they reset whenever there’s a mistake
No nothing would change.
Imagine, you're playing the Sims. They know they are in a simulation.
They still will do what you tell them and have no idea why.
Welcome to life on a space rock.
🫂💜🤙
I hate the idea of being controllable, id much rather be an npc 😂
Sims, just code.
NPCs, just code.
DNA.
😅

😉
I mean the code could be characteristics, appearance initial behaviour. Basic DNA stuff. I don’t want someone to click on me and tell me to go to place X or dance with sIm Y 😂
Maybe that's why we do the things we do! We get clicked and told to make the dumb choice! 😂
Would make you question if it's turtles all the way down.
Positive belief could be "there is a first mover so there is purpose."
No, the utility create by my choices in my life has no ₿arring on the reality i live in.
But your choices also affect others, who form the reality you live in.
Indeed, I am no higher moral authority, my choices try to create the highest amount of positivity for the most amount of people.
The reality in which I find myself does not dictate which actions are best overall. such things are unattainable for a pleb like me. rather I make choices to the ₿est of my abilities. It matters not if I am here with you or a brain being feed chemicals.
Am I being controlled by someone in this simulation? Or have I just been placed into this “reality”?
Let’s just say one day, Morpheus shows up at your door, shows you the matrix but doesn’t give you the red pill/blue pill, you just go back to your life
So you’re asking would I change as a person, if I went back to my “real” life. So you’re asking if the context of my life changes, would my actions?
Precisely.
Yes, without question. When I visit other countries, I change the way I act out of respect for local customs. When I’m at camp, I’m very different than when I’m at work. I would assume that it would be the same, in the scenario you’ve laid out.
Caveat, fundamentally I would not change. Who I am as a person would remain the same, just my actions would be different.
I see, what would be different in your actions though? Like behave as if someone is watching?
I’m confused by the question. Sorry, I don’t really understand the scenario well enough 🤷♂️😁🤣
I meant how would your actions change by the change in context, especially this particular context where you know your world is a simulation?
anything about what?
Anything about your life on this space rock
well.. for one, your ways of trying to understand life would change, wouldn't it?
Agreed, does that have cascading effects on your personality? 🤔 I guess I’m trying to understand how an answer to a spiritual question, change your life something like Sikto pointed out.

what do you mean with cascading exactly? i see different definitions online (one says self-perpetuating negative effects, other says effectively passing knowledge on to others)
I mean like a domino affect, because you are trying to understand life differently does that also change other parts of your personality, what parts specifically
That's a tough one.. because what is the conceptualisation of personality?
The answer wrt "what parts" would differ based on which collection of alledged parts we decide to chose from; there's many different theories and measurement of indicators that are suggested to make up the whole of the concept that is named 'personality'.. there is no standardised uniform list.
The answer on how much it would change, to my knowledge, would differ immensely based on the age you are when discovering that, since after around a certain age (~25 if i remember correctly) your personality pattern is ripened/v robust to changes.
In short, I dont know.
But considering everything depends on everything, I'd suggest.. yes.. it would change. Because your thought pattern changes. And your believe system precedes your thoughts, which precedes your feelings, and this all precedes your actions.
and im assuming here that the simulation = the brainwashing going on.
do lmk if you meant something else
*whispers*
Mattress Firm
Huh?
Now it could be that I don’t understand, but how would a game “asset” implementation on blockchain be need to be immutable?!
🫂

😙
If the creators of the game don’t care about what the npcs are creating
That’s just fantastic, I’m facts it’s amazing and phenomenal.
There’s such great feeling when discovering something you thought was what it’s not, and all of a sudden what you thought it was is just amazing to know that’s it’s not that, but an amazing idea nonetheless.
🫶🏻

But in regards of this particular case, I think it is worth noting that there is no evidence that this is true.
