President Akufo-Addo delivered a blistering condemnation of Europe and the US' wealth built on the backs of "the sweat tears blood and horrors of the Transatlantic slave trade and the centuries of colonial exploitation".

Akufo-Addo insisted it's time for reparations to be brought "firmly to the fore" saying that while current generations were not involved in the slave trade, "its benefits are clearly interwoven with the present-day economic architecture of the nations that designed and executed it."
