All depends on the car, and the cycles of the market...but yes, some things go for more than one might expect.

I was at a shop here in LA when they rolled this in… it was already sold and they wouldn’t tell me the exorbitant price paid

Oof I can only imagine. I don't even know how much an unrestored 912 costs these days. The range is all over the place.
