I'm done with all this experimenting.
I planned on a one-off donation to nostr:nprofile1qy88wumn8ghj7mn0wvhxcmmv9uq32amnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwv3sk6atn9e5k7tcqyr03wvnhrqhnz4wn0vesyyd6rhj2s9gqcqk3jh5kf7gmua6we9nss54eluy for 16,000 sats, by signing up for plus and then later cancelling the wallet connection. That's how they advise to do it and the functionality is provided in-app.
So far so good. Until today when another 16,000 sats goes out and the wallet connection was mysteriously active again.
If I just forgot to cancel then I'd write it off as a bonus donation to the hard working devs and leave it there. But I'm annoyed because I was intentional about disconnecting the wallet and double-checking that the subscription had stopped, only to find it hadn't.
If they help themselves again next month, then the wallet is no more secure than my fiat account, and I'll need to find a better solution.
That's what self-custody is all about... we use the tools and take the risks. I'm not expecting anyone to bail me out or refund me 16,000 sats - that's a fiat mindset. But ranting about it might help some other poor soul along the way. And meanwhile I learn another lesson.
