Planning to acquire the Ruger LCP II in .22 LR for the wife's carry pistol.

The gun is small enough for her to actually carry in real life every day, whether in a belly band, in a pocket, or in an off body bag.

It's an ideal rig for women: light racking action, low recoil, and multiple redundant safeties, including a physical switch.

The goal is to develop her comfort and proficiency in shooting and carry systems so that she always has something on hand when I am not present.

An extra mag and a slim tourniquet are natural extensions to the system that can be layered in over time.

It's not about the "best", it's about training on the basics and developing a system that won't be left at home no matter what.

Yup. A lot more power for the tradeoff of more recoil and less capacity.

For me 22 is a better starting point, thinking of the wife. Once she masters that who knows.
