Plenty of us have tried to run random startups, only to learn that you cannot profit off open source while sticking to your principles.
I'm suspicious of any startup product I see that claims to be both profitable and open source. There are ways to accrue value through private information networks, but not by selling software that is built on open source foundations. Especially not now with the marginal cost of software production (and replication) dropping to zero.
(This is a good thing, btw. IP, closed source and licenses are artificial, not-long-for-this-world moats and an impediment to efficiency gains, technology composition/evolution and deflation)
