Reddit will not allow me to log in to the web app on mobile. They have been waging a long war on PWA users. I wonder why they even offer the feature. Is this run of the mill incompetence or weaponized incompetence?

100% weaponized. Most people capitulate and log in. You have to really hate the process at a fundamental level to tell yourself, “I don’t really need to see that” and move on. Twitter is doing the same shit with viewing tweet threads while not logged in.
scrolled to the bottom looking for special notes. caught a couple small ones. notedeck viewing made it easier to spot them (feature not bug in this case)
