Not a #Pinephone. Never a Pinephone.

Librem maybe? What other mostly-open hardware phones are out there?

Pixels are open hardware, you can install a variety of software on them.

Do a Pixel 8 with #grapheneos

I use https://jmp.chat/ and no cell phone

But if you need a portable phone I would look at dumb-phones

This looks good. Do you use multiple #xmpp clients with it, a favorite or the app they recommend for Android?

I currently use Phone.com's service in a similar way, mostly doing text and calls from my computer.

I've used multiple clients, for Android/Chromebook I use their app (Cheogram)

Late responding to this but you can look at running a mobile Linux distro on a Pixel 3a, OnePlus 6/T & probably a few others. Gives you pocketable Linux like the Pinephone but with hardware that is easier to tolerate. This is coming from somebody who ran a Pinephone as a daily driver for 2 years. It's doable but leaves much to be desired. I've been considering snagging up one of these devices myself.

Motorola razer

Any phone you get well be non updatable in 3 years. Even the cheapest phone works good these days. Get the cheapest reasonable phone and know it won't last. Unless you do something different and get a pine phone, or fair phone.

Custom ROM – e.g. Lineage OS – can help, when available.
