Kids today have no idea. Imagine having one phone line for THE WHOLE HOUSE. Only one person can use the Internet at a time, and it took whole minutes to download a JPEG.
Phone rings. You wanna know who’s calling? TOO BAD. Pick up the phone and hope it’s not a telemarketer (it is).
I remember my first experience looking at porn as a young lad.
Blazing fast 28.8K connection on a new Apple PowerPC. Latest version of Netscape Navigator. Took at least 3 minutes for the jpeg to load in. I lucked out because nobody in my house picked up the phone while it was loading. The lady wasn’t even that hot after all that. 2/10 would not recommend.
Kids these days will never understand.
Downloading slow-ass JPEGs was a significant improvement over the status quo.

my first modem was 300/1209 baud! even downloadin the BBS text banner was slow AF!
