How can they? Who relies on their phone number for the security of their bitcoin?

If you use a phone service provider for Internet in order to spend and use Bitcoin/lightning via a lightning wallet then all the phone service providers have to do is disrupt your access to Internet at their convenience.

Idk just asking.

Any solutions to counter this?

Gotcha, but they can't rug hodlers, they can only disrupt their ability to spend and receive at best. They will never be able to take your funds if they never get your keys.

There are many ways to interact with bitcoin though, from SMS technology being used in Africa (machankura) to Blockstream satellites to long range radios being explored as a medium.

If you need to do something, you'll find a way, but if it's about convenience, sure they can rug your convenience.

Thx for the heads up! That makes sense.

It's just that: I wouldn't be surprised if "they" started attacking beetcorners ability to spend and receive beetkorn via hot wallets/ lightning wallets by messing with their access to Internet in some way. (Beyond banning Wallet of Satoshi etc)

My reason for saying this is:

I've noticed some potential fuckery with my phone recently. Could be an isolated event. Could be a device issue and I'm just being paranoid. Or this could be something to look out for eventually.

Long story short:

I Lost access to Internet for a few hours. That got me thinking this could be something the anti bitkorners could exploit. Couple that with high fees and you got. A Bearish event.

I'm not concerned or anything. Just food for thought.

Curious as to any possible solutions or preemptive measures I could take to a avoid their efforts to stifle our use of beetkorn. Sms/blocktream is something I'll definitely look into.

🫡🤙🏽💯🍻

If you're in the west, I think you'll be okay, you always have WiFi and breaking the internet is not a bitcoin specifically targeted attack, many people won't be able to use things. Maybe even card machines will stop working too.

Always good to think adversarially and consider what your use case and threat scenario is so you can think of solutions, just don't get stuck in a loop thinking too abstractly. Think about real use cases you can imagine yourself in and consider how likely it is before getting yourself too concerned.
