Daily Roman History:

During the Gallic Sack of Rome in 390 BC the Romans had retreated to the cities citadel after the Gauls had overrun the rest. To get communications in and out a secret climbing path was used by Rome, however unbeknownst to the Romans the Gauls had discovered this path sometime into the seige. Under cover of night a Gallic raiding party began to climb to take the citadel. As the neared the top the Sacred Geese of Juno, which were moved inside for protection, began to honk loudly and cause a ruckus. This alerted the sentries to the invasion and the Gauls were pushed back. Eventually the Gauls got bored and left, giving Rome control over it's city once more. The Geese were hailed as national heroes with a not small amount of art and memorials dedicated to them.
