Currently? Lack of content creators
idk about obstacles but here's what's missing :
- Discoverability
- Feed algos
- Relay-reliability
- Important Normies
- User-Generated content paywall

We need to find folks that have commonality with the #nostr mentality - DIY music (such as Punk Rock - a bit biased) is a perfect example. Trying to do this with with my other account - using hashtag #nostrpunx (using wavlake and zapstr.live) - if you have other passions, bring them to #Nostr and try to build a "separate community" this will help.

with what we've got in store, apathy can only come from intellectual blindness
so yeah, my answer:
intellectual blindness
(1) The heavy focus on Bitcoin might scare people off.
(2) Bluesky is getting a lot more attention in the mainstream media and could potentially overtake Nostr.
Probably because we as humans like exclusively and the shining object we βcannotβ obtain. Once we get the shiny object then that emotion and hype fades.
Plus the marketing force is strong with bluesky it is. (yoda voice*)

- it's mainly a social for bitcoiners
Tech:
- discoverability / raccomandation algorithm
- ability to revoke/chang the private key nsec

No one gives a shit about a new fandangled network that's so much better than the established network.
This is as successful as NOSTR is ever going to be.
the press. most people have no clue of its existence. the ones who do have think itβs a bitcoiner thing, and msm refuses to publish favorable opinions about it, βextreme right-wing stuffβ only. Iβm already on my third try rn.

Discoverability - users who care about a topic have to be very proactive in building up a community (like through common hashtags) that can be more easily found and joined.
