Our 14 year old cat went outside and died in the subfreezing temps while we all slept. He knew where to go to speed it up and we found him in the morning. I was able to dig the hole and we laid him to rest next to Rocky our first dog who died 2 weeks shy of 8 years ago. As I was crying at my computer a little chickadee splatted into the window next to me so I held it for a bit while its brains unscrambled. It flew off easily a bit later.
