there is nothing permissioned about DKIM

just because a few receivers decide they want to impose requirements does not mean the protocol itself is not permissionless

my relay has a whitelist, does this now mean nostr is not permissionless? 😂 nostr:note1pjk2yh270gen57kpu7ux626sl8xkg5duw2zrq4daxgpl3d6tyevqn2xuc9

The problem is that email has centralized into a half dozen large receivers that handle 99% of email, so no, if you want your email delivered, you have to play by the rules imposed by the few large receivers. You can permissionlessly run your own mail server to receive for yourself, but you won't be able to send to anyone without DKIM.

Same could very well happen for Nostr, especially with the corporate/VC/OpenSats capture. It’ll take time but it could very well become quasi-permissionless like e-mail.
