Allowing your enemies to use things to their advantage – by funding your enemies while being as bad if not worse than your enemies – is not a good look.
To me, as always, the primary threat is coming from U.S. gov. Chinese hypocrisy may exist, but it's way down on the list of things to fix. Sure, it'd be nice if they produced receipts on the Fauci/covid connection. But them saving face isn't remotely as dangerous as what U.S. gov is doing.
