No. Mastodon is “account based” so whoever runs your server has control of “your” account and controls what other federated servers you can communicate with.

Nostr is “key based” so you really do own your identity, and can send your notes to any relays you want.

Adding #bitcoin to mastadon wouldn’t create nostr.

Yes technically is absolutely different platform/protocol and that isn’t my point. My point is that #nostr is amazing because it has Bitcoin integrated, using key-pairing and relays is awesome and I love this place but Bitcoin is why #nostr will take over and smash all the established social media.

There is a monetary incentive added to this protocol and and its… permission-less money, how fucking cool is that!?
