Probably part of a defensive strategy to keep users from going to properties that don’t belong to Meta and keep the messenger business unprofitable for others. If all those users went to some other company’s product then that company might figure out how to make money and come at Facebook. Or just tarnish the brand.
“Wikileaks coined the term, ‘Intelligence agency of the people,’” says Stella Assange, Julian’s wife. “Bellingcat went with for the people.”

“At most, a newspaper might decide not to publish such information, but to help jail the leaker? It’s nuts.”
One wonders how it’d play out if the leaker brought the documents to them as a source. Is the glee at helping catch him because leak-publishing is their business? I just can’t imagine them behaving the same way if they were able to boost pageviews, personal prestige, and maybe some awards off the guy.
🧠 it’s almost like you’ve thought about this!
Neat to see you building & learning in public.
I know that getting a link with a DM is a little dicey and we are thinking about better ways to handle this. One of the reasons we chose a link to our site (instead of letting you generate an invoice by DM) is to give you one more place to verify authenticity.
You can always check the following to make sure a message we send is indeed from our #[0]:
1. You can validate it’s NIP-05 (https://nostr.wine/.well-known/nostr.json)
2. You can verify the link it is sending you is indeed to our https://nostr.wine website.
3. You can check our relay NIP-11 and validate that #[1] is indeed the “admin pubkey” for ALL of our nostr.wine relays.
When in doubt, ask #[2] or me. nostr:note1e34v520392s0lfe4dhuwamxcy9nlhd8d55ejw63c8cn0majc97aq30nrqc
💡 like #[4] did, as soon as I submitted my npub into their online waitlist, I got a DM. Maybe send DMs from this account as soon as folks register so the renewal message comes as a reply in an ongoing conversation?
Sounds like one lesson she got today was how to be a good mother of little girls
Never mind. 😬 https://nostr.wine/.well-known/nostr.json
Do you guys only verify your own official accounts, or can any of your customers verify with “nostr.wine”? If the latter, may want to reserve the domain for your own use to avoid confusion. 🤔
Looks like “nostr.wine” is NIP-05 verified in your screenshot

…and call the little guys “bits” with the ₿ symbol. 😂
Mmm… looks good! I can almost smell it! Home-baked bread is the best. I’m blessed to have a wife who bakes bread regularly 🍞
Yeah, I’ve been seeing a lot of it. You’ve been “aggressively” looking to hand people money. 😆 “Please, make the thing everyone apparently wants! Here! Take my money! You need more? Tell me how much!”
That said, I suppose upon reflection you may learn a more prudent way to get stuff done. Just seems weird from my perspective on the sidelines. (Not involved in NIPs, not a client dev, not a customer of yours.)
Contrast this to the many complaints and requests for feature X or feature Y from people more accurately called “users” compared with this guy who’s apparently running an actual service and innovating atop the protocol.
Maybe you don’t want to implement the nip or don’t have time or don’t like his tone or whatever, but from the sidelines the discussion this morning seems myopic.
Allowing (not requiring) teachers and admin to qualify to carry at school might have an interesting game theory effect insofar as you’d never know who is armed - like air marshals. The fact that they exist at all means you have to assume every plane has ‘em if you’re planning anything they’d want to stop.
Indeed. And a strong understanding of “their truth” is the concept here I’d argue against. The fact of multiple claims doesn’t tell us anything about the claims per se.
1+1=1
1+1=2
1+1=3
It doesn’t matter how many people claim any of those is true or false as regards the truth of the claims themselves. We also don’t have to investigate any of these claims to be able to say that at most only one of them can be true.
