Lead time on the laptop at the time was three months. I couldn’t go without again at that time, and now it’s just been put off.

I really didn’t mind paying for the part. But two bad experiences separated by almost a year like this - both apparently Q/A issues…

I’ll try to carefully peel the glue and seal stuck directly to the speaker diaphragm and make it work. Just not the experience I’d have expected from a laptop that cost as much as two MacBooks.

True. There was a time when ThinkPads were real work horses. They just wouldn't break, and if they did, you could easily repair them by yourself. Seems these days are gone... 🤷

They're not gone - I've hodled mine and keep repairing it. Cold, dead hands and all that :-p

The "bathtub curve" is real, but the early lenovo Thinkpads bathtub must have been designed for an anaconda.

Of course, I need to do sillier and sillier optimisations to make a modern browser run on it acceptably, but stories like this one remind me of why!
