Do people know when you mute them on this protocol?

You can check a list for that.
I dont know what this means. But my threshold for muting is adjusted for knowledged based on knowledge bevcause I'm a normal human person.
Pretty much everything on nostr is a list. So there's a list for your mutes, there's a list of people who muted you, there's lists for everything. You can check them in various clients. It's not available on every single client, but there are some where you can check more extensive lists of things like that for your npub or anybody's npub at that point.
There's not any clients that notify the user they have been muted that I am aware of, but you can see anyone's mute list on listr.lol
Not hard to find out if someone muted you round here.

I just noticed that! I thought I had remembered a client that showed it, so I started looking at my profile on various clients and saw it on noStrudel.
I think on Amethyst the mute list is encrypted. For other clients you can see the mute lists on nostrudel or listr.lol
