Unpopular opinion...I hate the bread butts. But I like my bread toasted and that much crust tears up the roof of my mouth. Every answer is the right answer. To be fair - I grew up in a large family where we had to be clever to make ends meet. One of the things we would fight over as kids was the crust slice. Don't know why or how it started, but it was a thing. It was the crust (butt) slice of a modern sliced commercial loaf, so way more soft and fluffy. The crust of a sourdough loaf is NOT soft (but the habit remains).
Growing up my mom always ate them, still her favorite piece. Now the kid loves them, so I'm saved ๐. If I buy a loaf, I'll flip them crust side in and make a sandwich, lol. When the kid grows up, I'll make the hubs eat it.
