I do like this analogy for "dilution" - but I wanted to really underscore the fact that the "physical attributes" of what matters to you hasn't changed, but the measuring device did.

Maybe in beer-land, it would be something like: pouring your full 8oz glass's contents into a 16oz glass and saying "wow, look how big your 'beer' is now! You can drink so much more!" when really you have the same amount of liquid and it's going to get you exactly as drunk as it would have in the smaller glass.
