Sincere question: What do you believe it would be the long term consequences of legalizing crack/cocaine and heavy opioids like fentanyl? I mean, though government policies are usually disastrous, would complete legalization be an "optimal point" for the issue?

One need look no further than Portugal. They did and the fear porn never came to fruition.

Part of the trick is decriminalizing, not legalizing. Employers and land lords should have the right to refuse to hire or rent to, but it doesn't do any good to lock users in jail. Rehab is much more useful than jail.

I would expect the use of opioids like fentanyl and even heroin to become much rarer. Drug prohibition has always shifted consumption toward more potent substances.
