Why do people dislike raspi now?

They helped get so many people including myself started on running nodes. Don’t hate on the Pi.

because they think it should run everything and the kitchen sink on umbrel

Probably this and they're way overpriced. Unless you get one for MSRP, there are way better options for the price unless you need the small form factor for some special build.

Good question

Only because the supply chain has made it so that there are valued way more than they are really worth. I have a few and they're great machines. Although I might have one for sale in their current price. For instance I replaced my 2 GB pie hosting one of my services, to a think center that was cheaper and more capable. Pis are still great machines. It's mostly about the form factor. For anybody reading I have a pi zero and a pi4 2 GB model for sale.

Yea love the form factor. Mine looks like a tiny black box with LEDs

I has 3 in cases like this

My lnd umbrel gui wouldn't load on a raspi at all after a few months of setting it up. It was just very unreliable. Had to migrate to an old pc with double the RAM and haven't had any problems since. Raspi might be a good starting point for sure but if you're serious about running a node then maybe skip raspis. Harder to get data redundancy on a pi than on an actual pc with HDDs.

I was running into RAM/Swap issues. Moved to Optiplex Mini 16GB RAM with SSD drive instead of 4GB + onboard eMMC (Stopped using SD card after the first card issues) and turned off swap to reduce wear and it's been running very well since.

Raspi should still be ok if you have 8GB. Found I ended up having to run a very limited app loadout on the 4GB.

gotta bitch about something

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe price/availability? And nice cheap alternatives?

Because they don't use it with a UPS. 🤙

Lol I don't get the Raspi hate, its a perfectly good node, it does the job, sure you can go get something more robust if you doing your own LN stuff or you more active with things like Joinmarket, but I still run mine proudly

Same 🤷‍♂️

I’m afraid it’s a violation of licensing terms if implored for commercial use without a license, but we knew this already.

The super slow IBD aside Raspi4 w 4GB RAM running a MyNode is usable. Understand the limitations of your hardware, don’t try to run bloated servers with shiny GUIs on them and it will be fine.
