Flexbox is awesome, but my ability to use it lacks absorption, yeah I'm old. So I know something can be done, but how do you do it?

I quite literally spent about 4 hours today trying to align a new ā€œmessage underslingā€ for reply accessā€¦ and Iā€™m struggling. šŸ˜‚
