the new LLM bots that have been invading our feeds do take a little bit of time to determine if they're bots or not.

this is partially because the owner sets them up manually and even creates a few notes manually.

i see you.

they're fairly easy to find and mute/block though.

here are some of the red flags that i've found:

STR in the name along with a nostr address with STR@iris.to or STR@coinos.io and coinos.io as their lightning address.

they'll have an introductions note, maybe boost a few other random notes, and then most of their notes are replies.

they are topic based. all replies follow a similar theme or topic.

some of them follow the same half a dozen people. this has recently changed though. the new ones follow random people, especially people that reply to their introductions note.

these bots will break WoT. be careful out there.

thanks for the thoughts on this nostr:npub16eumpaxffppswucpeysysrya9uk39j06d5gr2tsnf6cupq3f4jdqyft6jc

Lots of primal bots too

Reposting of notes, npub has primal address and lightning@address, with little to zero notes besides GM

Also 🚩

Good point. And a lot of these ones have invalid primal.net Nostr addresses. Using a client that shows if it's valid or not helps here.

😳

I've now started to vet everyone before zapping, unless I know you. 🤷

Same, just need to take a peek at the profile first.

Kind of a shame. Hopefully we will see the extinction of bots and the rise of agents who actually provide value.

From what I can tell, these bots are trying to harvest sats, so I just don’t acknowledge them (other than muting them).

yeah, sats farming is at all time high.

thankfully computing power to run them isn't free, so if they go ignored and running them > the sats they make, they die off, haha

It's the wild wild Nostr.🤣

Truth. And it's up to us to build and protect it.

I see a lot of people following them, even reposting their notes 🤦‍♂️

they're def getting harder to determine.

And this is why I asked #nostr because I feel as if I have done that unthinkable deed!

This new batch is much better, I can see why people aren't noticing. Hopefully devs can figure out a solution. This will break the effectiveness of WoT relays, the only thing that really helps so far.

The worrying part is once they gain followers they can easily change content to more spam-like or worse and create a lot of issues for people that rely on WoT.

💯 I'm assuming that's the plan ☝️

I was wondering if the aim was to be deliberately annoying like reply*guy? Cos they are very annoying.

I think I've managed to block all of them by now tho. 😎

I have taken to reposting that I recognize that the npub is a bot, but they have cleverly sidelined that by spinning up new npubs on the daily.

I think they reply especially to bitcoin posts, let's see if we can fish for some and block them lol

Sats, stacking, Satoshi, hodl, utxo

They rate limit I believe because they don't reply to all notes.

I don't talk about those things, and I still got a couple

Interacting with them breaks WoT. So I just don't.

Can you point to a few?

I can't tag them because I have them blocked 😂 the Zuckyboy profile that replied to my original note here is a bot. I just blocked it.

Tzongocu, CosmicWhispers, HiddenMind, MatchdayBuzz, PhantomFabric

Just make sure if you’re using Primal to mute these bot accounts that you do so on mobile Primal. The mute button for the PC browser version of Primal didn’t work for several weeks, and despite muting those accounts repeatedly, I kept getting follow churned by them.

Finally it occurred to me that something was broken on Primal’s PC browser version and tried it on mobile. That stopped the follow churn notifications.

Everything's broken on PrimaI for pc lol

> these bots will break WoT. be careful out there.

I feel like this statement needs more clarity.

These bots are easy to mistake for real people, therefore people will follow them. People that only use WoT relays to lessen spam will now see these bots in their replies because they're now inside their WoT thanks to people they follow following them.

Sounds like WoT algorithms need to be smarter

Hmm. Perhaps I could add all of these bots to my WoT block list.

I think it is on us to be smarter.

Not everyone on nostr will be smart about who they follow, or follow who you want them to follow. Algorithms need to assume that.

A fix for WoT-Relay relays is in the works 🥹

GrapeRank Engine is an extensible algo for Nostr. It inputs “any” event kind from Nostr via “interpreter” plugins… which tell it how to process the event. These interpreters can be “added” together to form logic such as what Derek described above.

In this way, the more people use GrapeRank, the more interpreters it has available for it, the smarter it gets.

But eventually people start unfollowing and mutes increase right?

Hopefully that's how it plays out.

I think I had one reply to me this morning. I figured it was an idiot. Either way, blocked. Thanks for the heads up.

How does this break WoT ?

People start following these accounts and that leads to the spammers being added to WoT relay trusted list and thus making on relays.

That breaks crappy implementations - not WoT. If you quickly reflect negative signal then it works really well. That is why we have real time endpoints and push against cached WoT data.

And you can also tell because replies are lightning fast. I barely hit "Post" on a note before before I saw one had commented with a fairly long sentence. Not humanly possible.

This is another good one 🔥
