Man, the story of Jonah is convicting.

For those just tuning in: Jonah didn't run because he was scared of the Ninevites. He ran because he didn't *want* them to repent. He didn't *want* God to be merciful to them. He was scared they might actually repent when he wanted them judged.

That mirror sure gets ugly sometimes.

The *Jonah was scarred* narrative annoys me both because it is blatently untrue AND it removes the mirror. It also deludes the way we are supposed to see Jonah as rightly and wrongly prefiguring Christ.
