Of course. If you set a list, it uses that, if you don't, it used a huge default list for your.

If I ever want to host it myself does it also act as a standalone relay or would it need to be paired with a secondary standalone one?

Its standalone. It connects to other relays to proxy them, but the other relays don't have to be your, they cloud be any public / private relay you wish.

So, this is the only software you want/have to to run. 😵‍💫

Both self-host and nostr:nprofile1qqst72lw22q3f8rux5846y4wxt63f3uxflcsspgc9aqhs5uv93ppqpcpz4mhxue69uhk5etvd3ukv6tndqhxcctwvshszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qghwaehxw309aex2mrp0yh8qunfd4skctnwv46z7rsvwnd service will be good options to go with.

Meant it more in the sense if it would be able to store the messages locally or if its merely a proxy.

Currently experimenting with docker just for fun.

No its just a proxy and don't store anything. I can add a store or persistent flag to it.

Currently it's under development and it can be too slow. But I'm working on it to publish the first version.
