Many paying for data by the GB in the Global South might have trouble with the datause of Nostr. I was thinking, for Nostr relays in Africa, when the message is sent, it goes to a random relay the user connects to and then the relay gossips.

This would be better than the messages all going to the same one, which would be quite the attack vector.

Wondering if alot could be done client side to to only download norltes that it hasn't already downloaded from some other relay.

This maybe is already being done.

Yeah, I know the data is crazy, haven't looked to see how much is due to outgoing vs incoming.

Maybe it can already be limited to just downloading your followers and nothing else.

But I'm really looking forward to Starlink bring global and ubiquitous. And even more looking forward to Bitcoin enabling true mesh networking to replace the current ISP based internet. Mesh networks exist, but no one wants to share the internet they paid for for free. Bitcoin finally allows your phone to automatically pay sats per Kb of data, and earn sats for passing it on. Just need to improve the tech a bit more.

Alot of it is actually in the outgoing, not just downloading data. Up in a corner, depending on what client you use, it might say how many relays you are connected to. Each message you send, instead of just sending your data once (to Twitter's servers, for example), you are multiplying it by that number and sending it to each relay you connect to. Good for censorship resistance. Bad for ANYTHING BUT unlimited data plans.

Oh. That's just text. It's very very little data. Most of the data is from you receiving posts, seeing they have links to other stuff like meme images, and downloading those.
