Never. I heard that Lake Balaton is gorgeous though.

Bit gruesome, but recently there was an "Irish national" that killed a woman in Budapest, put her body in a suitcase, and dumped it in the woods in the Balaton area, where there are wild boar.

He was caught when police confiscated his phone and his search history revealed that he had googled "how long does a wild boar take to eat a human body"

April is a great time to visit the many settlements along the lake if you like peace. I was the only person in a hotel in Balatonfoldvar one time. Was mad. Went cycling about. Pizza and beer every day. Bliss.

You can still buy fixer-uppers within 20 mins of the lake for under 30k. Used to be undrr 3k 18 years ago. South side. Public transport is good. Food and drink not hard on the pocket. Ice skating on the lakes in winter. Sailing. Wine. Live in a quiet spot and dip into the madding crowd when needed. Close to cities, plus Austria, Slovenia, Serbia. Plenty more good places around the country. I had a chance to buy a beekeeping business there a long time ago. Still think about it. Just wasn't the right time.
