It gives them a sense of power. Look, I can make all these people leave their houses, get stuck in traffic, spend less time with their families, just so they can sit at a desk and email people. Unless you work in an industry where you have to physically work with other people, it makes no logical sense.

To a manager, itโ€™s not as satisfying if they canโ€™t see people working for them, especially if others canโ€™t see it.

By the way, I suspect this is one reason why managers love open office floor plans.
