You think they want to "date" some guy that wouldn't even buy a round?

I think, i am pretty sure, that the generosity could very well be an ulterior motive. In other words if i just wanted to try to fuck and exploit, i would play safe and buy the drinks. Do you get me? I strongly advice you to let your husband advice your daughter preferably. Filtering guys by buying or not, is not a good advice.
