It was wild to watch the partisan divide play out in real time across different social media spheres yesterday.

Notice anything different about these two shots of Senator Van Hollen from Maryland meeting with deported prisoner Kilmar Abrego Garcia in El Salvador?

On Bluesky, they only saw the first photo, released by the senator, and people are mostly calling him a hero in the comments for demanding a meeting. On X, the photo mostly circulated was the one released by Nayib Bukele, and the comments are overwhelmingly negative, saying that the senator got played.

Besides the obvious cropping of the photos, the first one shows the senator talking to Garcia at a hotel table with coffee and water. In the second, two maragaritas with Maraschino cherries and salt-rimmed glasses magically appear. At first, I assumed these were AI-generated, but soon realized there were two competing PR stunts aimed at entirely different audiences.

Incidentally, chances are you barely read anything about it on Nostr because most people are here to escape the left-right media war.

Unusual looking margaritas in terms of color and no ice, all the salt is left on too despite one being less full without a straw to drink through, what in the world

They look like props.

Could they not have ordered those after the first picture?

But why, though?

Coffee and clear Maragaritas?

Makes no sense.

I can't say why they would order something other than coffee during their meeting (people do that), but your version seems a lot more complicated. It seems more likely to me that they just ordered multiple things as the meeting went on. And who said they're margaritas anyway? Even if they are, isn't it possible they weren't made with the fake garbage that gives them the vibrant colors people expect? Just seems like a massive jump to make from such little information.

From a top result for margarita search. I can easily see it being a little more transparent if they didn't go super heavy on lime. Not everyone uses fake coloring in their drinks. There are also clear flavorings if these aren't lime.

I only saw the CNN chick asking Bulkele if he was going to smuggle terrorists back into the United States.

And that apparently Trump admin waited till after the senator made a fool of themselves to release the documentation.

Either post didn't make it seem like a big deal, just libs being libs.

But really cool what you highlighted.

How did the Senator make a fool of themselves? Genuinely asking as i’m not following too closely.

To me it just seemed like enough of his constituents thought it was a big deal so he actually went and looked into it as a senator should do. But maybe he said something stupid that warrants you calling him a fool.

it's all theatre. tied to 14th amendment... birth citizenship... people are learning to operate effectively in the post-civil-war construct and the power players are looking to stage their own gettysburg address for globalism to keep a lid on the power structures we all love to dabble in. When they call it an "address" it's most likely a smokescreen issue for what they are really addressing. if they look like enemies at the "top", they're most likely working to gether at g20 meetings and the like. do you think someone could represent you without actually knowing your name other than on a voter registration form? 😁 pictures represent the observable object and not necessarily reality.

this doesnt look like a prison! 😁

Optics are very important.

This incident is a good reminder why I don’t follow current events. At the end of the day it turns into red vs blue. It’s annoying that this topic has serious ramifications however it turns out.

The margaritas definitely look like they were added to the photo.

Obviously not AI just shopped into it. Obvious when you zoom right in on them.

The back one is floating 🤔 this was the only transparent PNG they could find of margaritas that wasn't watermarked maybe.
