Do you need much btc to run one?

no grow it alongside your cold storage stack . make sure your channels are at least 5mil sats

why at least 5 million?

the bigger the channel the better (less need for rebalancing and can route big and small amounts so more versatile)

ideally a really really big channel. i like mine 0.25 btc or larger

So you need to run a full node, core lightning or lnd or whatever lightning software on top of that node, and then load up some liquidity?
