I can make common cause with anyone who agrees that it is immoral to put limitations on what I can do with the energy I purchase.

I’m skeptical the leftist bitcoiners who argue for bitcoin green energy would be able to agree with that fundamental freedom.

I’d love to be wrong about that, but I bet I’m not.

If everyone thinks this way, and if everyone starts using energy to mine bitcoin in addition to everything else (i.e. a lot more energy than an average household currently does), energy prices will go up and everyone will suffer + environmental damage. I think governments can discourage people but not restrict them because, as you said yourself, people pay for the energy they use, so they have the right to use it however they want. The practice of “Nudging” may come in handy on this case.

The market can handle nudging through honest price signals. We don’t need central planners social engineering us with their behavioral economic nudges.

Just let honest price discovery do its job.
