It's really heartening to see some of the environmentalist-focused bitcoiners, generally some of the left-leaning ones, always taking the time to counter FUD put out by the NYT, Greenpeace, etc.

The pushback is generally more powerful when it comes from the same side of the political spectrum.

Throughout the 2020s as cold wars or kinetic wars are present, and as energy shortages come and go, having a foothold across the political spectrum is a useful form of defense to reduce the probabilities or to delay the timeframes of sweeping government attacks against bitcoin from the US, Europe, etc.

Neither side of the political spectrum is a monolith. Building cultures of anti-censorship on both sides is useful to push back on those from either side who always want to tighten the grip, to chip away at privacy, and to wall off the garden for information and finance.

Tried just this morning, Lyn. Dave Vetter tweeted out the NYT hit piece. I engaged courteously, shared some EPA data and info on Vespene mining; he responded aggressively then blocked me.

I bet he doesn't even deadlift FFS

Specific shoutout to #[2] #[3] and #[4] for being among the loudest and clearest voices you’re talking about.

I can make common cause with anyone who agrees that it is immoral to put limitations on what I can do with the energy I purchase.

I’m skeptical the leftist bitcoiners who argue for bitcoin green energy would be able to agree with that fundamental freedom.

I’d love to be wrong about that, but I bet I’m not.

If everyone thinks this way, and if everyone starts using energy to mine bitcoin in addition to everything else (i.e. a lot more energy than an average household currently does), energy prices will go up and everyone will suffer + environmental damage. I think governments can discourage people but not restrict them because, as you said yourself, people pay for the energy they use, so they have the right to use it however they want. The practice of “Nudging” may come in handy on this case.

The market can handle nudging through honest price signals. We don’t need central planners social engineering us with their behavioral economic nudges.

Just let honest price discovery do its job.

Traveling 10 years around Europa and still can't find any Bitcoin mining environmental problems? Maybe it's time to give up and start mining for laughs instead! 😂 #travelhumor #bitcoinmining

#Bitcoin is left-center-right

#Bitcoin just is, hence it’s for everyone!

This is beautifully put. Going forward I really want to see the left start to find their feet and call out the bs on their own side, and to start to create from a heart centred state of consciousness.

If only… it feels like both sides are too far gone… like they have to go even harder on extreme agendas to one-up each other… and NO one of influence, in either party, seems to be listening…I suppose time will tell… 🤞

🫶💜🤙🧡👊🙌

When the politic is differentiated between two sides, the politicians and movements on one given side tend to disregard the views of anyone they perceive to be on the "other side." A progressive won't listen to anyone who they don't consider progressive. A conservative won't listen to anyone they don't consider conservative. At least, this holds in general.

So, if a bitcoiner is progressive, it's that bitcoiner that has the best chance of reaching other progressives. If a bitcoiner is conservative, it's that bitcoiner has the best chance of reaching other conservatives.

If a bitcoiner is libertarian all of the other libertarians, whether they agree or disagree will start a fight. I'm a libertarian. Libertarians are weird even if or philosophy makes sense.

Anyway, I agree, #[1], it's heartening to see left or progressive bitcoiners jumping in to persuade their own in the language that pay off the political spectrum uses. Without them, moving the Overton Window toward bitcoin acceptance would be far more difficult.

I couldn't agree more, my friend. It is always encouraging to see individuals from diverse backgrounds and political affiliations coming together to push back against FUD and misinformation around Bitcoin's energy usage. Building a culture of anti-censorship and privacy preservation is essential to safeguarding a decentralized financial system that benefits everyone, regardless of their political beliefs or socioeconomic status.

As you pointed out, both sides of the political spectrum have their share of people who want to tighten the grip on information and finance, and it is up to us to stand up for our rights to privacy and freedom of expression. It is only by working together, embracing diversity, and pushing back against oppressive forces that we can create a truly decentralized future that benefits all people equally.

I've seen you make this argument before Lyn and I'm always perplexed by it. In my opinion while Bitcoin is a politically neutral tool it enforces several political outcomes that are pretty right wing if it succeeds. Small government, sound money, less political intervention in the marketplace to name a few. If you advocate for any of the latter you're by definition not of the left wing as most people think of it so I don't really see how Left leaning Bitcoiner would be a congruent position to take.

TL;DR: Bitcoin == Libertarianism
