in my case, that would stay here for forever then

Uhmm.. I think he is implying he will delete the link of the image attached to the actual note, so the information of the "note" he wrote will be deleted.

Or maybe I should go to sleep. 😅

it was a reference to my sleep patterns

You see.. I really need to sleep. 🤣😅😜

So do I 😅🥱

Makes sense.

Bingo. Now integrate that into a single button push on the client for nostr.build accounts that can ‘Delete’. The client ‘screenshots’ your note, sends the image to nostr.build, I return the link to the screenshot, bam, user can delete whenever they want… May linger a bit in cache…

But others can right click to save the post image before deletion?

Of course.. like you could screenshot a tweet before edit or deletion

How does Netflix disable screenshots?

Do we own our posts?

Apple added that “feature” to iOS years ago at the specific request of major rights holders.

😒 I get it though.

I can still screenshot netflix on desktop computer. Can you too?

I haven’t tried in awhile but I will now

So I can keep my name!? 🤯😂🤣

Ofcourse, my initial reply was based on that 👀💜

Not if I repost it! I think. 🐶🐾🫡

It would still delete, try it, I dare you!

Perhaps both of you need some sleep 😂

i wanna see if notes can really be deleted on nostr

I’ll try! 🐶🐾🫡

This is a very good reason to pay for a nostr.build account 🤙

Indeed! They were the 100k sats best spent of my life.

#NostrBuilder

Imagine if we integrate it to be a single button push through the client.

So you will delete the link of the image.. what will happen to the note itself? 👀

Talking about it with #[3] , we have a few ideas.

Will likely replace the image with this..

👀.. 🤯☯️

Right click, save.

Isn’t that the solution for everything?

It’s never made me a sandwich. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Right clicked and saved. Sorted. Thanks. 😂

How does it taste 🤣

Ha! I’m no screen licker. Good try! 😂

Bookmarked?

This is how Polly the poll bot works by updating images

Interesting

Note that on services that cache the image and rewrite the output like snort.social, the concept breaks down.

Unless they periodically check the source and update their cache. At best they honor cache settings on the source resource and are just lagged. At worst, users get the wrong experience.

As long as snort social rewrites user content like this I don't recommend it for anything other than referencing notes by url.

Checking now and it is still in my Damus cache..

To work well, we would have to work with the clients to ‘delete that cached image’ if the user hit the delete button..

If someone never saw it in the first place, it never would have been cached..

Still an interesting concept..

#[3] what is this wizardry, can we stop it?

I don't see anything, probably its your browser cache

Good, so delete works if you haven’t seen the image yet.

Curious how you cache images, do you copy and leave on imgproxy.snort? How long?

If we sent you a request to ‘delete’, could you remove the cache?

I have a few layers of cache so its hard to know, Primary cache is the CF Cache Reserve, idk how often it will check origin to see if the file is still alive

Do you have control of it, could you delete it possibly if received a request?

Not sure, maybe we can test one?

Hey, that’s my content. I didn’t give you permission to delete it. 😂

👀

Even if he can, there can be 100 or snort social auto snapshot tools #[4]

This is an image hosted on void.cat though

So do you do this automatically, or did #[2] copy my nostr.build image and upload to void.cat?

It’s probably undeleteable. I uploaded that using a pair of Nostr keys on Snort that I intentionally lost. 😁

I run void.cat so its possible for me to delete it

Damnit!

🎚️

🙏🏻

So you did manually copy and upload it. Here we are thinking #[2] had some super cache process saving thinks on his void.cat…

I’m still likening the delete idea. If cache is our only challenge, that doesn’t apply to people who haven’t seen it yet.

Yeah, I was literally just shitposting.

No worries, you are not wasting valuable innovation time or critical collaboration and testing between devs, carry on! :p

The perils of collaborating in public over an open decentralized forum.

Ok, deleted the image-note, now just curious how long it takes for everyone’s cache to run out.. #[3] or #[4], how long do you cache your images from external links? Damus caches for a little while it seems.

No caching of images with NostrGram other than what the browser does.

Sweet, so the above image-note is deleted for you.

Yes it's a broken link.

the note or the image?

Technically just the image, but would appear as an empty note

🔖 image address at : nostr . build/p/nb3616.jpeg

Looks like everyone’s waiting for this note to disappear in thin air

Probably no cache on nostr.band. I still see it in Damus after 30+min.

If I clear cache it goes away, but have no idea how long if not..

I still see it. I’m going to delete my cache and see if that removes it

That worked! I can no longer see it

Yeah, it is dependent if

1) you have seen it already (if not it will always appear deleted)

2) when your cache is deleted

So its an empty note now that you deleted it. 🤙
