A traveler approached a town, saw a man sitting on a bench outside.

“What are the people like in this town?” the traveler asked.

“What were the people like where you come from?” the man asked.

“Oh, they’re spiteful, petty, argumentative.”

“Yes. You’ll find they’re pretty much the same here,” the man replied.

Later another traveler approached the town, engaged the same man.

“What are the people like in this town?” this new traveler asked.

“What were the people like where you come from?” the man asked.

“Oh, they’re heartfelt, generous, wonderful.”

“Yes. You’ll find they’re pretty much the same here,” the man replied.
