What is going on with egg prices in the US? Bird flu chicken slaughters?
In NZ a law was passed requiring all chickens to NOT be caged (barn with some amount of outside area, if not quite free range). It came into force on Jan 1 last year or the year before I can't recall. And eggs shot up from 30c to $1.30 or so (my guesstimates) but have since come back down to around 60c.

This charts NZ egg prices per dozen, cheapest brand only. It doesn't show it peaking above $12 but I distinctly remember it around $15 and that it is quite a bit lower now whereas this chart seems to show we are still near the highs. I don't know why the spike I experienced isn't there.
From what I've heard: factory farm puts 100k chickens in a building, government tests with PCR and finds bird flu, factory farms culls all 100k birds, government pays factory farm "market rate" for the culled birds, rinse and repeat.

Always going to be a problem with industrialized farming. I just buy eggs from next door, they have six hens in their garden. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
iirc I paid like 6 something for 18 eggs at Walmart last time I was shopping. Could be way off through, I didn't pay too much attention and am just going off memory now.
$3/dozen for free range eggs from Amish neighbors… was $2.50 until last week
Trump is begging other countries for eggs. In an eggcellent move, Finland refused to export eggs to the US, because of "possible bureaucratic difficulties".
