Im probably a bit of an outlier as I kinda work in tech. But I also think of self-hosting as a hobby as much its a necessary skill to stay as out from under "big tech". Im glad that things like start9 are trying to make it easy for people who might not be super technically savvy (but can read and follow directions and are willing to learn a bit) self host.
1. openHab and compatible devices for house automation, but I don't have a lot, mostly light control. Been looking into zwave stuff.
2. Bitwarden (self-hosted)
3. Phones are tough. I have 2 numbers, one is linked to business, one is as private as I can make it. all telecoms are a huge privacy mess.
4. Used to self-host email. Currently using my web host, but would like to go back to self-hosting. But email is fucked.
5. Nextcloud for shit I want to share and want access outside my network. sync thing at home.
6. I still cave to Amazon sometimes but make an effort to shop locally before going online. and I use sites like betterworldbooks.com for books that i want and can't find in a bookshop.
7. Nextcloud still.
8. I don't do a lot of this. i like Jitsi, but It's annoying to try to get people to actually use it. I've also futzed with Nextcloud talk. I have a tablet that I use for zoom if i need it.
9. so fucking many, lol.
