i ran an umbrel for 3 years. i had this setup working fine on umbrel before i moved to a built from scratch node about 6 months ago or so.

you need a few pieces, such as a reverse proxy like nginx, and a way to hide your home IP address, such as cloudflare.

(in before noooooo don't use cloudflare they're the devil nooooooo.)

Would you need cloudflare though if you had a reverse proxy cloud hosted?

a reverse proxy from cloudflare or any other provider or a VPS that you own yourself would be needed. you need some way to hide your own home IP address if you care about privacy and security.

Thanks for the clarification. I initially read that as you need reverse proxy and cloudflare. I figured that a reverse proxy should be good enough.

Curious, does your setup support Tor?

You could have your node only be accessible via TOR and run a proxy on another server to connect to TOR. I've done this before. It's a bit slower, but does work. I used Docker-Socator.

Thank you! I’ll look into that.

Thanks for sharing your experience with a beginner like me 🙏🙏🙏 Much appreciated.
