I've been looking into this all day, it's not really a government shutdown is it? just publicly funded services, but like it seems police and shit like that is still on? too many different jurisdictions man it's confusing🤣🤣🤣

yeh happened last in 2019? also I'm in the UK and I'm actively having to seek out this information, it's not in mainstream media at all. the BBC which are government funded have like 2 articles on it but you have to search for them to find them. very interesting
Basically it’s just a weird quirk of the US Congress where politicians can promise whatever they want to their constituents, vote to increase spending and the debt, but then when it comes time to actually pass the budget, the parties have a showdown to try to get the other side to give in to their demands, and they pretend to hold the entire country hostage because it gets the media excited and gives them drama to cover for ratings.

Critical things like police and military still work, but don’t get paid. So pretty shitty for them. I’m all for smaller government and the funding stuff helps point to how absurd American politics/government is, but it’s unfortunate that people are forced to work without pay
